Special Care Planner
For Curt, his path to a career as a Special Care Planner working with families dealing with serious health-related issues was a logical evolution given his own real-life experience. Upon graduating from Colgate University with a degree in International Relations and Economics, he enlisted in the Army, but prior to his deployment to Afghanistan he received a diagnosis that would forever change the course of his life.
Flash forward, honorably discharged and with a clean bill of health in hand, Curt went to work as a VP for a national bank. “While monetarily rewarding and intellectually stimulating, I missed the satisfaction of serving a greater good.” said Curt in describing what led him to make his career-changing decision. Considering his financial acumen, Curt realized that he could be of the most benefit to others as a financial service professional and found his home with Financial Architects. “I found their community-minded practice and commitment to special care planning very much in line with my own values and goals.”
Today, Curt works with families dealing with serious illness, raising a child with special needs, or the healthcare and service professionals equally committed to serving these communities.
“I’ve always believed in the importance of losing yourself in the service of others,” explains Curt in discussing what drives him. The perspective that his own health crisis afforded him has left him with a commitment to help families facing similar circumstances. “I’ve made it my job to help address the complex financial needs of clients dealing with disability or major illness” This can include providing advice and counsel on a myriad of financial issues.
Curt’s belief is that his first-hand experience and comprehensive knowledge of issues and options families and caregivers face distinguish him from other financial service professionals. “My strength is my ability to help develop strategies and tactics to meet the unique needs of unique clients often functioning under very challenging circumstances.”
Curt is active with many organizations, including Camp Good Days and I’m Too Young for This, a national advocacy group that works to educate young adults on the pervasiveness of cancer and the importance of early detection. In addition, Curt is a board member for Kids Miracle Making Club, co-chair of Colgate University Alumni Association and a member of Rochester Young Professionals.
He and his wife, Sara, reside in Brighton with their two Keeshonds.
